If you are eating them from a dinner plate than eat them with a fork by pushing the peas gently on the fork with the knife.
If you are eating peas out of a bowl than a spoon is fine. There in not a thing worse than watching some one eating peas one at a time with a fork, it shows they need to learn lots.

Functionally, a spoon would be better. But, I think if you are having a dinner with other food on your plate which requires a fork, I would say it would probably be simpler to also eat the peas with the fork. All that going back and forth between utensils could become awkward!

Spoon. No question. And if you're having problems scooping them up from your plate, use a fork or knife to push the peas against.

IMHO, it takes steady nerves to eat peas properly -- atop the prongs of a fork -- and "some nerve" to use a spoon. If you're eating at home, don't spoon 'em, practice with the fork.
I can't see spearing them; they mush too easily, and you would only get three or four at a time. (From OShenandoah's comment, above, it sounds like Emily Post ate them one at a time. Life...was...slooower...thennn ...)
I remember Bill Cosby made fun of people who use a spoon (" He's spooning his peas!"). And for some reason, my mom, a farm girl, called them "happy peas."

A spoon is MUCH easier only because with a fork you would have to stab each pea indivisually... which would take a while, and Whilst using a spoon you simply scoop up a good amount and you can enjoy eating your food not stabbing it :)

I'm not sure about etiquette, but it's much easier with a spoon.
But, I do remember the trick I used to use when I ate TV dinners as a kid. I'd use a fork, scoop up some mashed potatoes and then use the mashed potatoes to adhere the peas and voila'-----the peas are easy to pick up and eat!

Emily Post (old guru of etiquette) says "if you can spear it with a fork, then it's most proper to eat it with a fork. If not, use a spoon."
So, I believe a fork would be her choice - speared or scooped onto the fork.
