My husband for the last 2 years or so now has developed an outbreak of genital warts. We have been together for 7 years now and he claims he never had this before. I was a virgin when we were together but he had "been around" so to speak. I don't think I have any warts but what i want to know is if he could have caught this from someone before we were together 7 years ago or not possible. I mean i know i was clean and have only been with him so i hope he is not cheated (cheated). Anyone who seriously knows pls answer. Thanks

There's a small possibility that genital warts lay dormant for several years in your husband, however I do want to emphasize the word small. Usually they lay dormant for several months to a year, and then an outbreak occurs. I honestly cannot see a dormant period of 7 years though. You will need to be checked also, because more than likely you now have it, and you need him to be honest with you, because there are few diseases that lay dormant that long, mainly AIDS and hepatitis. Good luck.

The infection can have a long incubation period. This means that months can pass between the time a person is infected with the virus and the time a person notices genital warts. Sometimes, the warts can take years to develop.

The warts can be removed, but the viral infection itself can't be cured. The virus goes on living inside your skin. This is why the warts often return after they have been removed. You may need to have them removed more than once.

Incubation period after contact is 3 weeks to 18 months max. Many males don't know they have it especially if not circumcised.
A person can have the type of HPV that causes genital warts, but never develop any warts.

i have the same thing im pretty sure i went into the doc and they said that the virus stays with you for about two years or so.. so lasering it off doesnt do anything but get rid of the wart, you still have the virus. and no hpv is not like herpes it doesnt stay with you for life. You can keep gettin it back if you have the same partner and they already got it from you ( or somewhere else..) that way if one heals the other just gives it back. it would seem like after you had it once you would be prone to gettin it more than ppl who havent.. There is this really expensive thing you can do i think that will get rid of it all together but.. im not sure what its called

It is possible that he has carried the virus for seven years. It's also possible that he's been cheating. Trust your gut.
