she has every symptom of hyperparathyroidism. I'm willing to bet thats what she has and I bet the cat scan tomorrow proves. it. I told her to mention this as soon as she sees her doctor tomorrow. No, I am not making
a diagnosis but given the available data and her symptoms, logic tells me that this is a very real possibility and is worthy of mentioning to the doctor. I am nervous as hell about this. She is pretty calm about it

I took a look at her paperwork for tomorrow and it looks like they will be checking for hypercalcemia

The medical term is hypercalcemia. Usual causes are hereditary condition, or an overactive parathyroid due to unusual size or presence of a tumor. The cat scan will determine if the parathyroid is enlarged or if a tumor is present. If the parathyroid is ruled out as a cause, the next most likely cause is a cancer tumor somewhere that is producing parathyroid hormone. Breast cancer is one cancer that does this.

Hyperparathyroidism comes to mind. this endocrine gland is responsible for raising blood calcium levels and a tumor of the parathyroid gland will certainly raise it to alarming levels. Likely this is not due to diet. Rarely it can be caused by lytic bone cancers also. This does need to be investigated.
