My son is five years old,and he always has a bad chest,he has a cold and a cough at least once a month. If he falls asleep on me you can feel his chest is always weezey. He eats alot of fruit and I do my own cooking so he does'nt eat ready made meals so I can't see it anything I'm doing. He had a real bad chest infection christmas day and now he's got a cough and a cold again. But what annoys me is when we go to the doctors they say his chest is clear, and they have been telling his nan the same thing for years and then she was diagnosed with some bad lung disease at the age of 39.So it does worry me,because it always seems like they just don't want to know.If anyone can give me some info or tell me if there is any test he could get done just to see if it is astma, that would be great.

with the weather the way it's been , it could be allergy related.
milk is one of the worst things you can give a child with asthma or bronchitis - just so you know. cut down on the milk, cheese and anything else with dairy and see how he reacts physically to it.
also keep a check on how much sugar is going into his system (white bread turns into sugar in the body) sugar turns into flegm. he might not have a glycemic problem, but chest problems are a big problem for people with glycemic problems. they go hand in hand.

fluffyflo, i didn't even think of that. good answer!

You can insist to your doctor that spirometry tests be performed on your son, to detect obstructive physiology that is consistent with asthma. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are also consistent with obstructive lung disease, but your son obviously can't have those, so I think pulmonary spirometry would be very helpful in your case to confirm asthma.

As someone else mentioned, a spirometry test will give a good indication of his lung function. I would not have a chest x-ray done unless it is indicated after other testing

have them do a chest xray, is he in daycare? if he is that sort of thing goes hand in hand, children sneeze cough and touch toys that other children touch and we all know kids don't cover their mouth or wash their hands frequently. Are you a smoker? Could it be an alergy to a cat, dog, smoke, mold, dust will do it too.

Ask to see a pulmanologist

They can tell if it's asthma or COPD

If that doesn't help, go see an allergist
