Frank blood (red) in vomitus is quite rare and is usually from some sort of trauma to the nose, mouth, throat or esophagus. Red vomit may be from red food or drink as the others suggested. Chronic vomiting can cause what are called esophageal varicies which are like varicose veins in the esophagus. They result from the harsh acid that is vomited from the stomach burning the lining of the esophagus and also from the spasms associated with chronic vomiting. Is your friend purging? Lesions like that are called Barrett's Esophagus and have the potential to develop into cancer, which is quite nasty.
Blood from the stomach will look like coffee grounds. Blood from lower down in the digestive tract will not be seen in vomit, but will appear in the stools as thick, black and tarry. GI bleeds, over a period of time will cause a person to feel tired and weak due to anemia.
Did your friend feel better after throwing up? Did the nausea last for a very long time? If it was once and cleared up right away, no worries. If it lasted a very long time and was very painful and she could not stop throwing up, she should have gone to the ER to get it under control. If she is a chronic vomiter, like from Bulimia, she needs a great deal of help ASAP.

I hope she has seen a doctor by now. Is there any reason why she wouldn't? As her friend, you should make sure she does. Vomitting blood is never good.

I also want to offer you a bit of encouragement. I hope you find a good, strong group of friends to help support you through the next few years, until you get to college. Once you are there, you can consider yourself more independent, and start living your life the way you want to, and not the way others may be forcing you to. Good luck!

It could be haematemesis (vomiting up blood) or simply that she ate something that was red that caused her to vomit. Regardless, she needs to go to the doctor. Haematemisis is most commonly an indicator of an ulcer, gastritis (inflammation of the stomach), or tearing of the esophagus. She needs to go to the doctor/emerge ASAP as that is something that needs to be checked out regardless. That happened to my friend's brother two weeks ago- they went to a clinic and said that he had chest pain, but they were not convinced, so they went to the hospital and are undergoing tests. Hopefully it's nothing serious and your friend will be okay! Good luck!

Did she eat red jello, drink cranberry juice or something red?
The other option is blood, but you would have seen clots if that were the case.
Hope she's better soon.
