Fake sugar like Sweet N Low are horrible for you. Unless you're a diabetic and NEED to have something sweet, stay away from the stuff.

Use brown sugar, it's healthier, it's not processed or bleached or manufactured. It's natural and your best alternative.

This is a simple question with a complicated answer- basically it depends on your health, your diet, and your family history.

Particularly, if you have Type 1 or 2 Diabetes, it is better to not ingest a large amount of simple sugars at once. It would be better to use sugar substitutes if water is not palatable to you. In terms of the risks of artificial sweeteners, no studies in humans have shown long-term use of chemicals like Nutra Sweet (aspartame) and saccharin causing cancer. Though some older animal studies have shown some correlation between cancer and some artificial sweeteners, most have refuted these findings.

The best thing you can do for your health, if you are worried about sugar, is to moderate the TOTAL NUMBER of calories from your diet. Though complex sugars, like those found in whole grains, are preferred, simple sugars can be included in the diet, as long as there is moderation in the number of calories. Further, exercise (30 min, vigorous, at least 3 times/week) helps keep blood sugars under control.

I have found that there are three sugar substitutes that are tolerated well by the body. You can use Stevia powder as long as it is pure, not attached to corn starch. For a lovely sweet taste, eat plenty of sweet vegetables, corn (chew extremely well), carrots, onions, beets, etc. If you would like to try an alternative sweetener, try barley malt or brown rice syrup. It is mildly sweet and is tolerated well by diabetics because it is a grain sweetener rather than a highly processed type of sweetener like brown or white sugar.

In addition to this information, there is a study that has shown that Aspartame turns to formaldehyde at 78 degrees. I don't know about you, but I've seen those non-air conditioned trucks in 110 degree weather sitting out in front of stores in the summer time, not to mention that your body temperature is 98.6 degrees. I know that when I was drinking it, I found myself curling my hands and body at night and returning to the fetal position. I also had horrific headaches from it, so I stopped drinking diet anything and my body returned to normal and I enjoy health most of the time now.

Good luck and hope this helps.

Sugar should be limited to about 1 pound per month because the body converts half of any sugar consumed to sucrose, a precursor to cholesterol.
The very long term effect of substitutes has not been established
The best way is to avoid sugar as much as possible which would include not drinking soft drinks.

As a Diabetic for over 30 years, I've had no ill effect from using sugar substitute, like Sweet and Low. I do however have had some complications from high-blood sugar. Personally, sugar is bad for my health and saccharin has helped me stay healthier. As it is with everything else, moderation is the key. As for sugar substiture being bad for you, I don't see why it would affect diabetics and non-diabetics differently

using sugar substitues will ofcourse not have an huge effect on raising your blood sugars like any form of sugar would.

but be carefull if using diet products in large quantities as they contain an artificial sweetner called aspartame, also labeled as 950 and 951. aspartame is full of chemicals and poisons and if used long term in large quantities it can have harmfull and potentially fatal side effects.

aspartame is referred to as sweet poison.

it is so sad that alot of people, especially diabetics, don't realise the potentially harmfull sideeffects of diet or sugar free products because of this artificial sweetner. it should be banned from production and consumption.

its best not too and stay away from the sugar if you can. they say try not to use sugar subtitute like molasses (or margine, i forgot...)because molasses (or margine) can clog up your arteries near your heart..so its best ot stay natural and use plain old brown or white sugar.
