I unfortunately have severe asthma and allergies. I am on tons of medicine and play lots of sports. I cough all the time and blow my nose allot. I can't tell you how many rude looks and comments that I get. Today I was working out and had an asthma attack and was coughing vigorously that some ppl inquired. I said like I usually do that it was the asthma so they would realize I was not contagous. Is it insecure to often mention the allergies/asthma?

My husband has Cystic Fibrosis and coughs A LOT. His coughing also produces a lot of phlegm so it really sounds awful. When people ask it's totally OK to let them know about your asthma. Some people are generally concerned for your well being and that's nice. However, you DON'T have to explain yourself to anyone. We get a lot of funny looks when we go out. It used to bother me that people might think he had a terrible cold and was contagious. But then I came to realize I really don't care what people think. It's the way he is and we don't owe anyone an explanation. It's very liberating to think this way. You are who you are and if you cough, well... you cough, and that's that.

No, you are reassuring people, like you said, that you are not contagious and they are probably grateful to be told. Take it easy though. All that harsh coughing is a strain.
