I'm not sure where you got that from. Nearly every body who is involved in health care in any way is involved in fighting obesity (particulary childhood obesity), which is the main contributing factor to Type 2 DM.

There are many ongoing clinical studies toward preventing the autoimmune dysfunctions that create Type 1 DM. Unfortunately, once DM is underway, your body has already sustained a significant amount of irreversible damage. Diabetes is not like a bacterial infection that can be cured; diabetes is a syndrome that is the cumulative result of many years of damage to the body. The only way to "cure" it is to prevent it.

However, there are also many ongoing studies toward better managing Type 2 and Type 1 DM, preventing Type 2 DM and finding out what the causes are of Type 1.

Diabetes is a serious problem, and it garners more attention than almost all other health concerns (except maybe cancer).

Because there wouldn't be a need to 'cure' diabetes if all the fat assholes would get up and exercise once a year.
