just wondering if there are so many campaigns and promotions, let alone education about the importance of getting checked for STD's and knowing your health, why is testing so expensive? my friend went to the local clinic which is supposed to be cheaper than anything else and spent more than 300 dollars getting all the tests done...WHY?!

Your friend should have gone to the local board of health. Testing there is 100% free.

As a healthcare provider who orders these tests on people, I can tell you that ALL tests are expensive. Healthcare is expensive. What is the answer? I'm not sure. As for doctors making money from ordering labs....its the lab that makes the money, not us...in this particular instance.

Because the tests have to be accurate. Also, the rates of all health care have gone up astronomically in the past 5 years.

Because doctors want enough pay to be able to go on an expensive vacation, while the rest of us are scraping pennies just to get by.

Kids love sex. But they don't love getting STD's. Hospitals can get lots of money from all these sex-hungry kids.

Why complain about the high cost of STD tests when the cost of not getting one is free (abstinence)?
