yes it almost always does. may be because of the reclining posture. that is the time when the people around you even the most loved ones actually give you a rather irritated look instead of sympathizing with you. why don't u try gargling with warm saltwater or mouthwash. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

Prop your head and shoulders up on pillows at night to sleep (on an angle to help you breath and drain (sorry I know that is gross). Try putting hot water in a bowl at night and putting your face over with a towel over your head to & breath in steam to clean out nasal pasages before bed.
Also it is a fact that if you are running a temp it will spike at night.
try tylenol or ibuprofen to bring down a fever before bed. Drink juices.
One last thought to make you laugh. Don't kiss your honey , if his nose is runny , you may think its funny but itssssnnot!!!

It gets worse at night because you still have sinus drainage that goes down your thoat but you do not drink liquids to help clear the drainage nor to keep your throat moist.

your heating might be a factor, my mum always tells me to put a bowl of water ontop of my radiator as the heat evaporates it and helps keep moisture in the air, hope this helps and u feel better soon x

because your body slows down, and everything becomes drier, all the mucous membranes (your nose, your throat) and when these membranes dry out, they hurt worse. and lets face it, when we hurt, we're miserable!
