i feel chinese food is way over priced and cant see any justification for it to be so..

Why are 3 small spring rolls twice the price of a pie.

why is rice not included in the price of a standard dish?

Comparitively indian food typically costs 1-2 pounds less for an average meal.

Here in the US its cheaper than most restaurants and the portions are enough for at least 2 meals. Rice is always included in the meal unless you order lo mein noodles. The more upscale Chinese restaurants I've been to are still more inexpensive than their equal starred counterparts. Maybe your just going to the wrong ones, or (I'm assuming your in the UK) Chinese food is just more expensive although I don't know why. Here, I buy ingredients at an Asian market and go to a regular grocers and the same items price doubles.

It is relatively inexpensive compared to other restaurants. However most Americans only eat it occasionally because it tends to be very greasy here. But REAL Chinese food is even cheaper, and usually only in places with large Chinese populations. And the Chinese people that live here often do eat it every day.

You don't say where you are from. In Manchester its the other way round, Indian costs more with a portion of rice whereas i can get a decent meal with rice or chips from the chinese for £4.10. You will also notice that even in supermarkets, all cheap food such as pies are more unhealthy as they are made from cheap ingredients. Maybe you should try a different chinese take away.

Most of the time chinese is fairly cheap unless you're ordering delivery. Try to find a good chinese buffet in your area. It's tricky I know. We've got maybe 2 out of 10 that are worth going to and only one of those is really good. Go at lunchtime when the prices are cheaper. I guess they think you won't eat as much at lunch. Boy do I have them fooled. LOL.

Round here Indian is more. And we've got a new Chinese that will put anything you want in the one large container with rice. Haven't tried it yet but I can't manage a whole Sweet and Sour Pork Hong Kong Style & separate rice anyway.

I don't know where you live, but in Chicago, Chinese food is way cheaper than Indian. Most Chinese places here are frequented by college students because they are cheap and good.
If you live in the UK, Indian food is cheaper because there are way more indian restaurants than Chinese restaurants. It's a matter of supply and demand.

i know what you mean- in a chinese restaurant in london's chinatown it can range from £4.50 up to £6.50, something like that. it's ridiculous. a couple of years ago when i visited hong kong during the xmas holidays, various chinese restaurants had dishes such as rice porridge, chicken in black bean sauce and rice, chow mein, and each dish cost as much as £2.00 or £3.00! and these portions were either big or large. also, the quality of the chinese food in britain, or london for example in terms of taste and flavour may not be as good as or as tasty as what you would be served in hong kong or china. plus, i've also heard that in some restaurants or chinese take aways they use msg or some other flavour/chemical enhancer in their cooking. but i agree with you completely- chinese food is so ridiculously expensive nowadays in britain
