Suggest the advantage to diabetics of having slow-acting insulin and also suggest why you must have some fast-acting?

slow acting lasts all day (think carbohydrates)

Fast acting happens quickly but doesn't last (think a sugary drink). Most diabetics successfully combine the two

Most people with diabetes who need insulin need both long and short-acting insuiln to control their blood sugar levels. Sometimes people with type 2 diabetes can get by with using long-acting only.

The long-acting insulin gives the body a baseline insulin level, so that the blood sugar stays normal and the body's metabolism is able to function normally between meals, and during the night.

Short -acting insulin is taken at mealtime, to help prevent the sudden jump in the blood sugar when absorbing the carbohydrates from the food. It helps to convert the carbohydrates into storage form.
The short-acting insulin is around in the body only for a few hours.

The main advantage of short acting insulin is it can give you better diabetic control but is more invasive into your daily routine as it would involve 4 plus injections daily. You would use injections each time you eat. It can give a better balance though.

Longer acting insulins give control (less tight control usually) but offer the advantage of once or twice daily dosing.

my husband is on insulin and has the fast acting during the day this is to work as you eat and the one he takes last thing at night is the slow release which works on the bodys natural sugars overnight when youre not eating ask your diabetic clinic to explain it to you properly

I think you mean slow acting carbohydrates not insulin. Insulin is what is used to convert the carbohydrates in to energy.Grans like Wheat, Bran, Barley, Otes, Rice, Corn. Are all slow acting carbohydrates.Fast acting carbohydrates are White sugar, Brown sugar. Molasses, Syrups, Candy, Cakes, Cookies.Slow acting carbohydrates work like a wood log, it will burn slowly and last longer.Fast acting sugars work like paper,They burn faster and hotter.Leaving you with a quick burn out. If your sugar levels get too low you need to bring them up.It is best to stay away from sweets. Use Grans, fruits, and Vegetables.
