How do you precook pasta and hold several hours to serve later that day?

ewwww.... don't do it. it doesn't taste like pasta made immediately before serving.

but if you really have to, cook it al dente WITHOUT SALT, put it back in the pot and fill the pot with ice cold water.

then, before serving, drain from the cold water, put into a pot of boiling salted water for a minute or two, then drain again and serve.

After cooking the pasta rinse it with cold water. Keep rinsing until the pasta is cold. This will prevent the pasta from sticking and will keep it fresh. Seal it in an airtight container or with plenty of plastic wrap to keep out the air. When youre ready to use it you can stick it back in a pot of hot water, but only for a few seconds. If you dont have water later on, then you can zap it in the micro. Good luck!

You can do it a casserole. Assemble a pasta casserole and bake later.

^^^^^^ I would also put butter on it. Then rinse in hot water to reheat and add a little more butter.
