and a correction to Ruthie (apologies) but HIV is not AIDS and doesnt stand for it. HIV is the name of the virus. AIDS is the acronym for the collection of syndromes (illnesses, i.e pneumonia) that occur whilst you have HIV - as HIV leads to immune-system breakdown so any bug that enters your system leads to illness - thats what's known as AIDS.

HIV stands for the disease called Aids which is also a sexually transmitted disease which is contacted through bodily secretions mainly through having sex. there are many, many sexually transmitted diseases. I suggest you look STD's up on the net for a complete lists of sexually transmitted diseases. A baby can contact some of these disease through the birth canal.
