If it's a bronciodialator then yes it can help as it opens up the pathways in the lungs and helps to get the sputum out. Your child should also be drinking plenty of fluids, especially water.

If this is a viral infection then yeah you're just going to have to wait it out. If it's a bacterial infection then you would need anti-biotics. Given your Doctor's advice, I am assuming a viral infection in this case.

Anyhow, if you doubt what your Doctor has told you, then your best bet is to see another Doctor. Nobody here can really give you any solid advice without assessing your child.

And here is a prime example of misinformation right here in this thread - " If she has a chest infection, she needs antibiotics. Who told you she had a chest infection? If it was your doctor, I'd change doctors"

This person has single-handedly villified and slandered your doctor...claiming they you should outright change Doctors, casting doubt on their credibility. Let me cast a little light on this person's ignorance however...a chest infection does not automatically mean the child needs antibiotics (quite frankly it's people such as this who cause the overuse of antibiotics *sigh*) As I stated earlier, if it is a viral infection then you must simply wait it out.

Antibiotics only work on bacteria!

But this person slanders your Doctor based on nothing more than her ignorant perception of what is 'really' going on *rolls eyes*.

Like I said earlier, nobody here can really give you any solid advice without assessing your child.
