I don't know how long you've been taking it, but there are a couple possibilities:

1. You may need to eat less and be more active-the weight may not be totally dependent on the thyroid issue.
2. You may just need to give the meds more time to work.
3. You might not be on a therapeutic dose yet. Get your blood levels checked and talk to your doctor.

Could be many reasons. The morning TSH needs to be around 1.0 when one is on Synthroid. Also, you need to reduce carbs and exercise.

If your morning TSH has been around 1.0 for 6 months or longer and you do diet and exercise and you still aren't losing, then its time to look into trying a T4/T3 thyroid medication. Synthoid is only T4.

Still yet another thing to look into is insulin resistance. Insulin resistance can happen because of the weight gain from hypothyroidism. To check this out have a fasting glucose and insulin level done.

What is Synthroid?

Synthroid (levothyroxine) is a replacement for a hormone normally produced by your thyroid gland to regulate the body's energy and metabolism. Levothyroxine is given when the thyroid does not produce enough of this hormone on its own.
Synthroid treats hypothyroidism (low thyroid hormone). Synthroid is also used to treat or prevent goiter (enlarged thyroid gland), which can be caused by hormone imbalances, radiation treatment, surgery, or cancer.
Synthroid may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

its not a magic bullet, if you eat more and exercise less you'll still gain weight. Lots of fat non hypothyroids around.
