Smoking is really bad and addictive. You can call this line that I got form a brochure (1–800–QUIT–NOW).
Here are some steps:
# Set a quit date.

# Change your environment.

1. Get rid of ALL cigarettes and ashtrays in your home, car, and place of work.
2. Don't let people smoke around you.

# Review your past attempts to quit. Think about what worked and what did not.

# Develop a plan to deal with cravings, withdrawal symptoms, and times when you usually smoke a cigarette.

# Once you quit, don't smoke—NOT EVEN A PUFF!(not one bit)!!!

Cheapest way, for about 3 days count the number of cigs you smoke

1 Smoke 1 or 2 less for a week
2 cut back by 1 or 2 fo another week

Repeat steps 1 and 2 till you stop

I smoked for 25 years and it has now been 3 years sinse I have had a cigarette. First of all, you have to be completely ready to stop. If yoou aren't ready, you're not going to stop. Then you need a plan. What I did was set a date to stop. Then I bought the step 2 Patch. Read the booklet that comes with the patch, but only use the tips they give you . Don't follow thier 3 month olan on using the patch.. You only need it for a week. The nicotine is out of your body in about 4 days. They just want you to buy more patches. That's why they want you on it for so long. Not neccessary. Buy lots of snacks. You need to keep your hands busy. do crossword puzzles, things like that, and what really helped me out was taking nice long breaths of fresh air! You will not believe how much better you are going to feel. It takes a while to feel better, but it's really worth it. I can now go on a 30 bike ride and not get winded at all.
think of all the money you are going to save by quitting. Plan on buying yourself something nice with the money you save. Take the money that you would have spent on smokes and put it it a jar or something. It adds up quick. I bought myself brand new skydiving equipment. About $4,000. Quitting smoking and quitting drinking were the best things that I have ever done for myself. You won't regret it! Good Luck!

Congrats on wanting to quit! I smoked for 22 years, tried the patch, didn't help, tried the gum, didn't help. I finally just threw my cigs away and quit cold turkey. Make sure you have friends and family that will be supportive. You'll need to change your habits some to keep your mind off of the triggers. Best of luck to you. If it's the right time and you have your mind made up, you'll be successful.

good that you want to quit.

nicotine, gum, inhalers, and lozenges helped, along with some zyban and lack of breath.

Keeping carrots & celery around is a good thing.
"Cold Turkey" is just a phrase some folks toss around when they want some sort of credit for something, as it does not exist.
