I tested my blood sugar for the first time today with a freestyle monitor and my blood sugar came out to 347. Is this very high and should I be concerned? I am concerned and I would appreciate it if anyone knew an accurate scale of how blood sugar goes since I was just diagnosed with diabetes and I would like more information on this. Thank you for all your help.

Yes it is high in any doctor's opinion. Make sure your hands are clean with plain soap and water. Alcohol from antibiotic soaps, alcohol prep pads and hand sanitizers can show up as a false positive for blood sugar. Sugar should be checked two hours after eating. As for the correct level. My son was diagnosed with CF related diabetes a few months ago. this is treated as type 1 with insulin injections. We saw two different charts for his age and both had different numbers as to what was normal and neither agreed with what the endocrinologist had in mind for him. He wanted his blood sugar to be less than 100 all day. The lower the better. If fact, I believe if we were battling insulin shock every day this doc would have been happy. I guess it depends on which doc you ask. 347, if this is accurate, is high and is an indicator that something is wrong. You should go to the doctor if not the ER.
By the way anyting over 240 is indication that your body is in a state of ketosis and is not buring sugar at all. If you are taking insulin this means it is not working. Once again this is two hours after eating and with clean hands. It may also take some time to get your insulin dosage right.

I realize that conventional health care is necessary and appropriate. That having been said, there are many things WE can do to overcome type II diabetes, and improve life as a Type I diabetic. I've been researching alternative medicine, and the amount of help that's available to diabetics is amazing.

Natural remedies are quite effective, and include:

Cinnamon
Bitter Melon
Gymnema Sylvestre
Nopal cactus
American Ginseng
Fenugreek
Chromium picolinate

Cinnamon regulates glucose, and has a polyphenol compound called MHCP that mimics insulin and activates cell receptor sites. A quarter teaspoon twice daily makes a difference. Fenugreek increases blood flow and inhibits the growth of infectious organisms. Everything on the list has a use in fighting diabetes. Learn how to use these herbs and don't fall victim to diabetes needlessly. You can find out about about them on line, or in a book I read cover to cover--

"One Son's Quest for the Cause and Cure of Diabetes", ISBN 7890766313

The author, a doctor, lost his mother to diabetes and spent the next 20 years finding a way to overcome it. My brother was dying of diabetes, and I was just starting to need insulin when we came across this definitive work which came out in February 2005. We both lead mostly normal lives now. It's a life saver, and the best money you'll ever spend on the subject if you decide to go that way.
You might want to check Abe Books, Alibri's, or Amazon.com for a good used copy cheap. I bought mine new, and I think it was about $35. I don't get any money from anybody for telling you this--just want to help, and the techniques in this book is what made the difference for me and mine. Best of luck.

Hi Mary,
Congrats on testing your blood sugar for the first time. That is a big step.
Keep on testing over the weekend as often as you can.Several times a day.
You should get in touch with your doctor or an endocrinologist on Monday.
If your sugar goes over 500+ , you really do need to get to the hospital.Do NOT drive yourself .
Your number of 347 is just that... a number.Don't try to miss meals or trick the meter. You want valid information.
Good luck and this is just the beginning. You will learn so much more in the weeks and years to come.
Good luck. Keep us updated.

I'm a 45 year old woman and was recently diagnosed as being a borderline diabetic. My doctor prescribed some medication, but before filling it I decided to do some research on the internet which led me to the methods. After reading this ebook and applying the methods, my scepticism turned to 100% belief. I noticed that my energy levels increased significantly and I felt more rested in the morning, my symptoms started going away.

I am very happy to tell you that I have been feeling better than I have felt in years and my doctor informed me that he will be taking me off my prescriptions if I keep this up.

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

For a younger child the range is about 80- 180 for normal, or good enough. Adults and teens I believe are even more stricter. Either way, yours is way too high, but also if you just ate within a couple hours, then that happens too. At that level, keep checking sugars every 15-30 min, try doing exercises [if your ketones are good], and drink water. Maybe skip your next snack or eat a little bit less carbs on your next meal [fruit, milk/dairy, breads, starches].

Hi! I have had diabetes for 10 years, I am on an insulin pump, and I am 16 years old. For me, anything over 250 is considered high. I use the A1c Scale to correlate my numbers to. My goal is 100, so 350 is very very high. I get up to 400 sometimes and my doctor becomes extremely worried. Good Luck trying to regulate =) I cant find a good scale to show you online, perhaps your doctor showed you one?
