I had sex w. a woman 3 years ago, and the condom broke while we were having sex. I don't know exactly how long the condom was broken for , but I will guess that it was less than 3-5 minutes. We immediatlely stopped, and afterwards she insisted i get an HIV test. So i did, stupidly I didn't ask her to get a test, I just assumed that because she was so insistent on me getting one she didn't have it. I had asked her if she had it anf she said no. Well I guess my question is, if I had that brief unprotected sex , what are the chances if she did have it, i would have received it. I didn't have any sores or cuts that i knew about, and have never had an STD. I tested negative for all STD;s about a week later when i took the test. It has been 3 years since, and i guess my second question would be would i have felt any symptoms whatsoever since. I hear people develop respitory problems in this time frame, and are slow to recover from colds. I recover quickly from the few colds i get.please help

If I understand you correctly, you were tested one week after this happened and not tested again. An AIDS test would not have been accurate to within one week. Depending on the test, the best you could hope for would be at least 13 days for a good test. You should be tested again to ease your mind, although chances are against your having it, since about 98% of women don't have it (depending on where you live). If she was the type of woman to insist on condoms and an AIDS test, you're more likely to be safe.

To answer your first question, any unprotected sex can result in the transmission of HIV. A person doesn't have to be exposed for x number of minutes.

The second answer is: Primary HIV infection develops in 30% to 50% of infected patients, 2 to 6 weeks after contracting the virus.
The symptoms may include fever, tiredness, sore throat, headache, diarrhoea, myalgia, arthralgia, and occasionally enlarged lymph nodes as well as an eruption of small papules on the body. Primary infection often resembles mononucleosis. The symptoms resolve within a month.

generally speaking the rule of thumb is that even though HIV and AIDS related complications can take years to appear you would still have the virus in your system; the virus is detectable at 6 weeks after a possible exposure to a potential HIV positive person; your best bet is that if you test negative now after 3 years you are probably negative... you should be ok. Good luck and hope all tests are negative.

I understand how worried you are , in 1989 I was raped , and of course they was no condom. I had to go every year for 10 years for an HIV test , luckily, it was always negative .This horrid disease can take up to 10 years before any symptoms show up, the next time you go for your yearly physical just ask your doc for the proper testing .As for taking this Lady's word for it, don't , not very many people are honest about being infected especially if it was a one night-er. Hope this helped some. Take care. Val

If you are talking about HIV or AIDS symtoms may not show up for years down the road! Its crazy same with getting tested for it. You can get tested and have it but the test will show up negetive. It only takes a minute to catch an STD. This girl probably does have a case of something and was seeing if you caught it.
