Not always- smelly is all in the nose of the beholder. If you see warts/lice..then it's likely that they have an STD. But, I guess that some STDs can cause the penis to smell bad- as STDs can cause bad odour. If you are really worried about STDs..the only real way to be sure that the guy was STD free would be to have a blood test. Don't rely on a nice smelling penis to be the indicator of being STD-free (most STDs can be transmitted to sexual partners even if the the carrier does not have any symptoms!) Be careful and good luck to you;)

These answers are very misleading and quite ignorant,I have the same problem, have been with the same woman for 30 yrs never had an STD and neither has she and wash behind my forskin on a regular basis, but yet the smell[ which has been there for a number of years now] persists,Have seen various doctors, dietitions all to no avail. So come on guys it has to be something and the STD thing is too simple and really not the cause.

Since this is something that you've never experienced before, it's probable that someone you had sex with passed you an infection. What I recommend is STOP using soap. Soap is very harsh and can make matters worse (sometimes it's even the cause of infections or irritations in the first place). But if you want to continue using soap make sure it's very gentle and mild, and that you thoroughly rinse it away afterwards. Definitely don't over-clean. Also get rid of the build-up of smegma. If this problem doesn't resolve itself, see a doctor. Because it's possible that you have some type of infection.

It doesn't have to be smelly to have an STD and that's not a reliable way to check.
A man can smell due to lack of cleanliness but doesn't mean he has an STD.

But even freshly bathed, and having an STD, he wouldn't necessarily smell.

I don't think that there is a smell involved with an STD. Most likely this is a hygiene issue. Confined areas tend to sweat more during physical activity. Best advise... shower more and use soap.

If you have been engaging in risky sexual behavior you should get tested regardless. However, if you are uncircumcised you might just be dealing with smegma (bacteria). What you need to do is clean out your foreskin every day. After you dry the area, apply an antibacterial penis health creme. Man1 Man Oil is a good one. Do this and you will be odor-free. Hope this helps.

Smell is not a good indicator of STI, but it could indicate other kinds of infections that you don't want. He should get checked. Keeping a solid hygiene routine and using a cream with vitamin A (like Man1 Man Oil) can cut down on odor-causing bacteria in general, though.

It means that he hasn't showered recently, and if he did, he didn't properly wash his privates. Sometimes if a guy ejaculates and doesn't clean up right away then he will be smelly as well. Just a cleanliness issue.
