I had 'walking pnuemonia' and while I was never in the hospital I was on antibiotics and other meds and bed rest for a good three weeks. I was weak, even a trip to the bathroom wore me out. I had to force myself to eat. But eventually I got over it and got a pnuemonia shot which prevents certain kinds of pnuemonia. It works. And I am a lot more careful of my health. I quit smoking when I had pnuemonia but started again. Then four years ago I stopped smoking again and stayed stopped. I don't get as many respitory illnesses now.

Do what your doctor suggests.

How long ago did you start with the medicine?
I've had pneumonia several times. Give it at least 72 hours to even begin to feel better, about 2 weeks before you kick most of it. The cough will go on for almost a month...irritating as all heck.

Pneumonia can be from different causes and therefore can last different lengths of time an have different symptoms. A few lead to death no matter what treatment is given. Take your medicine, don't do excess exercise or drink alcohol or do anything else that will reduce you resistance. Be optimistic. Most treated common pneumonias let you feel better within a week, able to return to work within ten days, clear on xray within a month.

Give it some time. Take a rest, drink some tea. Relax.

It could last a couple of weeks. Make sure you don't overdo it at all. It will just prolong your recovery. Rest up. Baby yourself.
