I had my blood pressure taken today at the doctor's office, before seeing the doctor. I'd say I was moderately to highly agitated at the time, becaues I was seeing my ob/gyn and I always tend to get agitated thinking about these exams. :0

However, despite my emotional state, my blood pressure reading was only 120/74! Would it be logical to say that if my blood pressure is "normal" when I'm upset and nervous, that it's probably below-normal when I'm going about my daily (non-upsetting) life activities? :)

I've never had a problem with high blood pressure, so this isn't about that. I'm just kind of amazed that my BP doesn't shoot up when I'm all nervous. And it makes me wonder what the heck my BP is like when I'm RELAXED!

Thoughts, anyone? :)

First of all, you should be grateful you don't have B/P problems! When people have low pressures, they usually have symptoms: dizziness, esp, when getting up is the most frequent. It's possible the reading was incorrect. When someone takes your pressure, your arm should be at your hearts level. Also, is the cuff is too big for your arm, you can get a lower pressue. If the tech was listening, and not using a machine-she might now have heard correctly. If she was using a machine, it might have been off. So, if your arm is normal size, you can check it in those machines-they are pretty much all over these days. But, low pressure is rarely a problem unless you're in shock, bleeding, or over medicated.

Blood pressure measurements don't count for anything if you've been walking around. Ideally, you should be sitting down for at least 5 minutes or so. Blood pressure also can vary during the day, so it's best to get measurements from similar times during the day. No caffeine in the morning either. These measurements should be repeated on a few separate occasions. Some people get "white coat hypertension" when they go to the doctor's office because they are nervous. Probably blood pressure medicines wouldn't kill you. But you don't necessarily need blood pressure medicines if your blood pressure is only high while active. When doctors study the effects of high blood pressure, they study the effects of people who are diagnosed with it as described above. You are probably at no higher cardiac risk from your blood pressure.

Your blood pressure is fine - be glad that it is in the normal range. Here's a chart to help put it into perspective: http://www.vaughns-1-pagers.com/medicine/blood-pressure.htm

it's highly doubtful that your are hypotensive when you are at rest because you would be symptomatic (dizzy, fatigued, lethargic.) best way to find out for sure is to take your pressure while at rest and remove all doubt. i don't think this is something you should worry about

You're normal, if you're relaxed it's prolly n/65. Which is normal too. You're healthy, no worries.
