Intelligence I don't think, was ever an indication of a vegan lifestyle, but I think that a really dumb vegan will starve to death due to malnutrition since you have to be creative in ensuring that you get all of your nutrients.

I grew up on a farm, and befriended the animals and petted them, and watched them slaughtered.

My mother was beside herself in frustration when I didn't want to eat the chicken.

I thought I would always feel that way-- until the day the calves were sent to the meat plant.

The beef calves had names. They were petted, scratched behind the ears. They were lovingly fed juicy pumpkins, corn, the extra watermelon along with the normal feed they received.

When they were big enough they were brought to the meat plant, and later that day, the meat was picked up and my family had a barbecue.

I was depressed, I didn't want the meat. My sisters husband was cooking the steak, and verbally pushed and pushed until I took a taste of his.

My GOD! It was fantastic!

I realized my mother was a horrible cook (sorry mom) and ALWAYS bought cheap meat.

It was a revelation- the more you love the animal the better it tastes!!!

Now days I am still a little off chicken, but not beef.

156, & a Phi Beta Kappa, here.

I love beef, veal, pork, chicken, turkey, duck, lamb, all manner of fish and shellfish, and have tried a few others in foreign countries that we don't serve in the U.S. (horsemeat, asari, sazaie, goat, squid, whale, sea urchins, and so on).
