are you in the US? Call 911 you can not be refused emergency medical treatement.

The sypmtoms you describe could be a heart attack.

As everyone else said, call 911, or drive him to the nearest emergency. With chills and fever, it is likely at LEAST the flu. One of the deadliest complications of flu is pneumonia. Viral pneumonia (such as influenza) is very difficult to treat, AND there is always the possibility of a secondary bacterial infection, which is also dangerous if not treated.

Pleurisy is not always caused by an infection. Simply put, it is an inflammation of the sac surrounding and protecting the lungs. There are many causes, and can be very painful.

To put you a little at ease, it could just be something as simple as chondroititis, which is inflammation of the cartilage connecting the joints of the ribs and sternum. It can also be from muscle soreness due to excessive coughing. With fever and chills, however, he needs to be seen asap. You can go downhill very quickly from a lung infection. Viral infections need careful monitoring and supportive care, and bacterial infections can overwhelm the respiratory system or go septic (get into the bloodstream and infect the entire body).

Find the nearest non-profit emergency room. County hospitals, as well as most teaching and non-secular hospitals fall into that category. Take it from someone with experience (AND insurance), many for-profit hospitals over charge, some have substandard care, and ALL become real sharks when it comes time to pay. Most non-profits will be willing to work out long-term payment options. Generally, the worst that will happen, if you truly can't pay, is that the bills will be turned over to collections, and you'll have a nasty spot on your credit for 7-10 years. I figure that is worth the life of your husband.

Get him in, at least to be checked out. Ambulance is fine, but remember that they will try to charge you, as well. They gotta eat, too. Drive him if you can If he's really sick, and you are really scared, an ambulance might be worth it.

Michelle.

If it is just when he breaths, he probably has an upper respitory problem, like broncitis, pnemonia, or it could even b a pulled chest muscle, which can cause pain when u breath. Keep n eye on any other symptoms. Like coughing, fever, nausia, etc. Ne of those symtoms n he should probably get to a doctor to get n antibiotic. If it is an infection its best to clear that up fast b/c infections create a chain reaction. One infection after the other. I should know I had 5 @ once all b/c I didn't get meds for my sinuses. 1 being a urinary tract n by belly piercing. So get it check ed if there r more symtoms. He doesn't want ne more problems

he has some sort of infection that is a sure thing . he may have pneumonia ,pleurisy,or other less serious problems .
i have asthma and i know that when i have been having trouble with that muscles that normally dont get used to help with chest movements start to help and this can result in discomfort.
i also know that severe pain really bad pain can come from a chest infection as this last month i had to go to hosp in ambulance because i was sitting here and coughed and that felt like some one hit me with a bat i could not stand nothing .
the doctors gave me xray and different tests and just told me after about 5 hours that i could go home and take asprin to help with the pain and then follow up with my doc.
certainly you should think about cough meds to break up the phelm as well just take asprin or tylenol.
heating pads heat rub massage help
also do this for sure SLEEP SITTING UP LOTS OF PILLOWS OR SLEEP IN CHAIR THIS WILL HELP A GREAT DEAL IN ONE DAY .

Take him to the hospital. Normally I would think heart attack, but if it's when he breaths... it could be something else, something to do with his lungs. I know what your going through with very little money, because I am going through a circumstance exactly like that. Just about every hospital has ways to help you pay, like some sort of financial aid... just go talk to your local hospital. What is more important, bills, or your husbands life? I hope things work out for you.

Sounds like pleurisy. The pleura surrounds the lungs. When you breathe in, inflating the sore lungs, it hurts. Coughing hurts even more.
Pleurisy is an infection, and not easily treated at home.
You can offer bed rest and liquids - the usual.
But, a prescription of the right antibiotic is actually needed.
Best to you.

If you have asprin in the house give it to him in case its a heart attack. TYlenol should help with the fever too. If he gets any worse you wont really have a choice but to take him to a doctor.

Go to the ER right away! They have to take someone in his condition, chest pains are serious. Worry about the payment later.

Sounds exactly like what I felt when I had pneumonia. Please take him to a doctor!!!! Pneumonia can kill you! I spent 5 days in the hospital with it. Sorry but if that is what it is then he will not get better without antibiotics and breathing treatments.
