It is not implanted, it's worn under the skin. You change the site every 3 days and put new insulin in a new reservior too. It's awesome, my 7 year old daughter has been using the Minimed for a year now.

I'm not exactly sure how it is implanted, but I do know that its a great idea. I know that you can set to give you a certain amount of insulin when you know you are going to eat, which keeps you from having to do those annoying injections... it also keeps a steady supply of insulin running to mimic your body's basal insulin. The pump is referred to as "intensive insulin therapy" and studies have shown that intensive therapy verses conventional greatly decreases the complications that come with having diabetes.

Also the pump is very small, about the size of a pager, it can be easily hidden and you can swim and shower in it... I would recommend it.
