Maybe both people on the commercial have it and they share the bottle? lol
Seriously, more and more people are getting STDs. I heard on Dr.Phil I think that 60% of highschool students have 3 or more STDs. That is alarming.
I don't think anyone would just say "C'mon, Baby, I know you've got crotch-rot, but hey lets go for it!" I know I wouldn't.
I'm still amazed at Magic Johnson's wife staying with him and having his baybay after he tested positive for HIV! Cuuurrrraaaaazzeeee!

Many people have herpes in the US. I'd bet big money that some of you people who answered this question so negatively have it.
You can sleep with people who have HIV and be safe...if you're just sleeping that is. Now if the question is, would you have sex w/ someone who has herpes, the answer is yes. Safety needs to be at the front of it all though. Shower before and after, use condoms and dental dams, and don't even think about it if there are symptoms or signs (yes, they are different things). Just like so many things out there, education is lacking on this topic. Educate yourselves!

I find the amount of ignorance on this issue to be shameful, shameful that our schools dont' educate better, shameful that our parents don't know enough to pass the education on.
Herpes is a VIRUS. Herpe simplex is very common. Statistically out of the 18 people who answered before me, 4 have genital herpes and more than that have oral herpes which is responsible for 1/3 of all new genital herpes outbreaks. I kid you not, and if you don''t specifically ask for herpes testing you don't get it with your standard std checkup so if you haven't asked your doctor for a test you don't even know for sure you don't have it. You guys need to be responsible about your own sexual health and that doesn't mean avoiding herpes like the plague it means educating yourselves and being tested. A full 3/4 of the people who have herpes DO NOT KNOW IT and you stand a better chance of NOT getting herpes from a partner who has it and knows it then you do of getting herpes from someone like everyone else on here who insists they don't have it and are totally clueless but might have it anyway.
More women then men have it, because of the way we're built, sorry ladies but you gotta know one in four to one in five total who have it in the general population more of those are going to be women.
The valtrex commercials are frankly educating more people than our high schools and parents have ever done or been able to do. Taking suppression (which you don't do if you don't know you have it!!!) reduces the chances of passing it on to very very small if you take care to notice when your body might be showing symptoms. The rest of you suckers who don't bother to educate yourselves will get it and pass it on until someone finally gets a bad outbreak and goes to a doctor and then lets you know later how stupid and careless you were to not get tested because now they have it.
COLD SORES are herpes and you can pass them on, just like genital herpes, EVEN WHEN you aren't having an outbreak. SAME THING. You might not even remember getting cold sores when you were a kid and now you are out there getting down there and passing on this virus because you are clueless and someone is going to be getting really ticked off. In the current population over age 50, 80-90% -- at least 8 out of 10 people folks, have oral herpes and most are totally clueless.
Nobody 'tells' that they get cold sores because they are too ignorant, ignorant because nobody ever told them before and if the Valtrex commercials don't do it who will?
Hopefully those "SILLY" Valtrex commercials at least get some people curious enough to do their own research and find out what nobody ever told them before.
Get educated people. Love is hard to find. Herpes is EVERYWHERE. If you never sleep with someone who has herpes, and if you've had more than 4 partners in your life you probably have and just didn't know you did, then your odds of finding that magical lifetime romance thing go way way way way down. Herpes is manageable. A stupid little virus that most of the time causes no grief except for the ignorance of thousands and thousands of people who don't know much about it.
Oh. About the condom remark. You're getting closer but hun you better never have sex with someone DURING an outbreak condom or no condom. The region is contagious not just the sores. That's why a lot of guys end up with outbreaks just below the condom. For oral herpes, avoid oral sex and kissing til 3-4 days AFTER the cold sore is gone whether you are the one who had the sore or whether you are the one getting the oral sex.

I think that some of you are being a little harsh. I don't have it and have never been with someone that did but if you really love the person then there are ways to deal with it. The person can always wear a condom during an outbreak. Give these poor people a break, they didn't ask to get the virus it could happen to anyone.

i live in australia so dont know the commercials.
however, i would like to say how childish and immature a lot of people sound on here. the person with the name ending 888 nailed it. its with the attitudes of most the people on here that causes disease to spread.
knowledge is power.
i have just been diagnosed and have no idea when i got it, as it can be dormant for years. i probably caught it off someone like you guys. im not promiscous and dont like oral sex. lucky i am with a man who loves me, and we will get married eventually.
i feel sad there's so many judgemental and mean people out there who dont know any facts. good luck to you, im sure you will all lead ignorant miserable lives.

Herpes is a virus people!!!! Just like catching a cold... you don't have to be a bad person, or a person who sleeps around to get it.... most of the people who answered here probably already have it and don't know it.... that's how herpes is spread.
If you use a condom, and wash up after... it's perfectly okay to have sex with someone with herpes. The chances that they are going to have sex while they have a "flare-up" is unlikely... it is incredibly painful.
Educate yourself...

I would add but laurie888 pretty much nailed it. 1 in 4, that's 25% for those who need help, 1 in 4 people now have this virus. Between MRSA and herpes, better get used to this brave new world.

I know I sure as h3ll wouldn't .. I laugh at the commercial myself. And to comment to the few people that think we are being to harsh. Think about it, who really wants to take a chance. No matter how much you try to protect yourself against that person. THERE STILL IS A CHANCE...the gum guard comes off, the condom breaks. WHO IN THERE RIGHT MIND WOULD TAKE A CHANCE if they had knowledge of someone with crotch-rot. (lol) that was a good one.
You don't need that much education to know that there is still a chance..Get a grip.
What do I look like saying. "You are such a loving and compasionate person, I feel we can grow and get past this, even if you are infected and there is chance that my health is at risk"
Nah not me I will pass...

Herpes has no cure, once you get it its for lifetime. But your immune system can suppress it over time so its not visible. It is ok to sleep with someone with herpes as long as they don't have the obvious flare ups or someone who has just been diagnosed with it recently.
