I am not sure it is considered coughing. It is like... when you pull everything from the back of your throat to the front... like spit and stuff if your mouth is dry... etc... well, I also have a clogged nose and when I blow it nothing comes out. I suck in the mucus really hard then do that pulling thing... sorry if this sounds gross... then I spit out... A lot of the times it contains blood... just a small streaks usually, but sometimes it is about the size of... erm... um... the arrow key on your keyboard, the scablike... darker blood, followed by red blood in ever direction... spread out, about the size of a dime... a little less. But one time I also coughed up mucus and it was yellowish, no blood. Am I having a problem? How can I stop this? How long will it take? I've had my tonsils out and I do NOT want to not be able to eat because of cuts in my throat ;) Please help. Will this heal?

You guys are immature. I want a real answer. You can break a blood vessel when coughing so much. I had the flew for more than a week and still have the ending stages. So grow up.

I am pretty sure it is not coming from my lungs. So should I still go to the doctors?

At best you have a sinus infection which is rampant and dripping blood back into your nasal cavity which is coughed up, when your "hork" the mucus.

However you could have any number of lung diseases like TB, Cancer, mesothelioma and others, so it is necessary to see a lung specialist and have internal testing done immediately!

Sounds like you might be having a sinus infection that isn't going completely away, so it is constantly irriatating your mucuos membranes. I would make an appt with the doc and see about some antibiotics. Usually if you have yellow or green mucus it is a sign of infection. You might want to try heating up a wet washcloth in the microwave, about 2-3 minutes so it's pretty hot. Make sure it is cool enough to place on your cheeks and forehead without burning. Lay down and rest while the cloth rests on your face, you should start to feel drainage pretty quickly. I hope this helps, go see the doc though also. Good luck.

It could be a nose bleed that is further back in your nose if it is red colored blood. If its dark and looks like coffee grounds that you are spitting out then its coming from your stomach and you need to see a doctor. It also looks like you have a bad cold; try a nasal spray like Afrin for nasal congestion, If your surgery from your tonsils was recent then the blood is from that surgery; and you need not worry unless the bleeding is severe. See a doctor if your bleeding is worse, you are having difficulty breathing. Don't take Motrin or aspirin, these thin out blood and can cause more bleeding; take Tylenol it doesn't thin out blood. Yes it sounds like this is temporary and you will heal

it could be because of mild bruises in your throat due to coughing - due to sore throat. don't worry too much. it has happened with me - and i actually thought it was blood cancer or something like that. it is only because of soreness of the throat. Gargling with warm salty water or mouthwash can reduce the pain and inconvenience. You can find some good home remedies at http://ailments.in/sorethroat.html

I promise you, you will alright in just 24 hrs. good luck!
