it becomes clogged and narrow due to buildup from various materials like fat and cholesterol or nicotine. as it becomes narrow, the flow of the blood becomes faster of course, higher pressure. as the speeding blood flows under the high pressure, it may cause damage on the walls and cause scars like skidmarks. as the scars heal and the pressure continues, the dried scar or dried blood may be carried along with the flowing blood. this can go to the brain and be trapped and clog the flow of blood to the brain. as it gets clogged, no blood goes to the brain, stroke. the other path for the blood is that it goes to the veins leading to heart and clogs the flow of blood into the heart, heart attack.
