Prevent cough: cough is the reaction of lungs to throw out mucus, generated as a result of protection, when exposed to harmful environmental or pathological ambient. During a change of seasons, cough is inevitable, but deep/hollow dry cough has some cause - allergies.

You can trace the cause by careful examination or isolating cause (s).

When suffering from dry cough, specifically avoid those cough syrups which are marked as "expectorants" - these generate more cough (drumming of lungs) to throw out the lung-garbage.
Instead, take cough quiteners - but after consulting your physician.

Pls note: sometimes dry cough is also caused by abruply reducing the smoking as a reaction engineered by the demand of blood - as the bird now can not easily FORGET flying

In winter, it's especially important to have sufficient moisture in the air, as heating systems tend to drop the relative humidity in most homes to very low levels. Sonic humidifiers, simple vaporizers, or even containers of water will help raise the humidity in your house; if you can afford it, a whole-house humidifier that attaches directly to a central heating system is a great choice.

Also, be sure you are drinking plenty of water or other clear liquids. If you have allergies and take medication, make sure you are not taking the kind that can dry out your mouth and throat excessively, such as Benedryl, unless you absolutely can't get control ANY other way.

If you have a humidifier, they can work wonders, especially turned onto high. If you don't have one, boil a large pot onto high with water, turn it down to just a simmer and keep an eye on it, especially when it gets low. The humidity will do your sore throat good. Other than that, boil some water onto really high heat, add some honey and lemon, and drink it. I think the humidifier is better though.

Prevention is not possible unless you are a freak. Every remedy does not work every time. Sometimes it is allergy and cold will follow. A few times it is both. Try known tried remedies, if not relieved better consult your family physician. If you do not have one, better have a dedicated one. Resist to go to a specialist. Generalists FP are better.

Well, to prevent dry cough is easy. get a humidifier from the store and use it espacially when you sleep/ if you can not get one and your heat vents in your house are on the floor, then remove the covers and set a small can of water in them. when the heat is going the water will evaporate into the air.
