I was diagnosed with cervical dyspalsia and went for in for a colposcopy and biopsy (ECC). No punch biopsy was done. The results came back negative (thank God), but I have to go back in 6 months for another PAP. I am confused as to whether or not I have HPV. Has anyone been through this? I am going to call my doctor on Monday to have him explain things more clearly.

It was a low grade dysplasia.

i have it. i have had everything you can possibly have done to me. dysplasia can happen without ever having hpv, but it isn't common. i would have him test you for hpv. there are certain strains that cause abnormal cells which cause dysplasia and there are types that cause genital warts. if you have one, you usually do NOT have the other. they can test for the specific strain. my hpv test came back positive 1 year ago and now when they test me it comes back negative however, i have had six paps in one year and they are all still coming back positive for dysplasia. as long as your tests are coming back negative, it is ok if you have it. my doctor told me that only the two strains that cause genital warts affect men. so if you do give it to someone, men get rid of it within a couple weeks. and once you have had a certain strain, you cannot get it again. also, some doctors say because it is a virus, you never get rid of it. but, my doctor has said that in most people once you test negative, unless you get a totally different strain, it will never affect you again. i hope this helped. good luck with everything.

yes i'm going through that now. One of my paps came back positive so once that happens you have to go back and get paps done every 6 months instead of every 12 months. My second pap was negative and the one after that. Once you get three negative paps in a row you can go back to getting paps every 12 months. Basically they say that Viruses cant be cured but HPV can go away on its own. That's what happened to me and that's most likely what happened to you.Yeah you probably had HPV but its good it went away because you wont get that type ever again. there are still 3 more types out there for you to get though so just be safe from now on! Hope this helps

Yes, actually I had the same thing about 8 months ago. It is HPV, it is sexually transmitted, and since you have been diagnosed with dysplasia, that is what you have.

You may have had it for a very long time and never knew. It could have been from your first encounter and it just recently came to.

My doctor told me that is is very very common; a suprisingly high number of women have it.

Just be sure to go to your 6 month visits and you will be fine. If it ever does advance, you will catch it early enough. Good luck.
