Pulmonary stenosis is a congenital (present at birth) defect that occurs due to abnormal development of the fetal heart during the first 8 weeks of pregnancy.
The pulmonary valve is found between the right ventricle and the pulmonary artery. It has three leaflets that function like a one-way door, allowing blood to flow forward into the pulmonary artery, but not backward into the right ventricle.
With pulmonary stenosis, problems with the pulmonary valve make it harder for the leaflets to open and permit blood to flow forward from the right ventricle to the lungs. In children, these problems can include:
* a valve that has leaflets that are partially fused together.
* a valve that has thick leaflets that do not open all the way.
* the area above or below the pulmonary valve is narrowed.

Pulmonary stenosis is a narrowing in either the pulmonary artery or pulmonary valve, where the blood leaves the heart and enters the pulmonary artery to go to the lungs.
It is serious because any narrowing causes the heart to work harder. This can damage your heart. There are several ways to treat pulmonary stenosis. Your doctor can tell you about them and help you select the best way for you.

I have pulmonary stenosis too. You cannot talk a nurse into allowing you to donate blood, and there is good reason for you to not be able to donate. There are, however, other things you can donate. You could look into being a bone marrow donor.

The pulmonary valve is the valve that control the flow of blood from the Right Ventricle of the heart to the pulmonary artery and to the pulmonary(lungs circulation.)
When that valve is narrowed it is called pulmonary stenosis. Depending upon the severity of the stenosis (narrowing) it ca be broadly classified in mild ,moderate and severe stenosis.
The course of events depends upon the classification.
If you have been diagnosis as such,I am sure you have been told 1.the severity 2 the simple precautions to take eg antibiotic cover during dental extraction etc.etc. 3. The possibility of associated problems.
You can ask your doctor for further details.

yes this is serious, it is a narrowing of the artery that sends blood from the heart to the the lungs. this results in a reduction of blood flow to the lungs, which means you are not getting enough oxygen to all the organs in your body. if you have this you need to see a doc asap, depending on the degree of narrowing surgical intervention may be needed.
