No. I'm a strict vegetarian. I don't drink or do drugs, but I do not consider myself "straight edge."
The concept of straight edge has been bastardized by members of the hardcore music scene who yearn to fit in somewhere and believe in something beyond themselves. That is NOT what the original straight-edge concept was about. It was about making personal choices and individuality, not about joining some elitist club.
The hard line mentality of anything, be it religion, politics, veganism, straight-edge or whatever, is not healthy to the mind, body or soul.
Do what is right for you and you alone. It's your life and no one else's.

Well I'm almost straight edge (I do enjoy the occasional drink every two months or so but never to get drunk). And I know what you mean about being isolated. And it's twice as hard for a guy, because at least when you're female you still have guys asking you out and you get the opportunity to pick and choose but an isolated guy either has to go out there and make a fool of himself or stay at home and go to his grave a hardened bitter, depressed bachelor.

I'm like that, and I'm a 24 y.o. guy. You shouldn't feel isolated; people are different and not always the same things are right for each one of us, and not all the people like to think twice about some things and review their behaviours/feelings/etc.
I don't find it hard or anything, my friends know my points of view and either understand or accept them, but maybe they are older and more mature than highschoolers. High school was terrible for me... but now I'm free to live as I prefer.
I find it so weird that positive things like no drugs/cigs/alcohol/casual sex are seen as being nerdy or strange or whatever (it looks responsible to me). The world turned upside down... as far as it concerns me, anyway.

Hmmm... I guess I'm almost "straight edge". I do drink occassionally, but I never get drunk. I'm 30 and I've only had one hangover in my entire life (right around age 21). The rest of it is all out though. Too risky and/or pointless, in my opinion. It can definitely make ya feel hopeless sometimes... the casual sex part especially. Seems "everyone is doing it" and you're weird if you don't... but hell.. I don't wanna deal with some nasty STD for the rest of my life just so I can be stupid for a night. NO THANKS!

Well I don;'t know about straight edge I'call it common sense for who wants to risk Aids by casual sex since no preventative is 100% and Aids isn't the only illness-theres also Hepatidis C,STD ,etc. Drugs,Cigarettes-who wants a addiction thats a pain the rear-I finally was able to quit my cig addiction that I could buy at the corner store and i couldn't imagine having to go looking for a fix and alcohol -used to have terrible hangovers-so bad couldn't even make it to the bed but would lie on the floor moaning-miss it No No and again No.I prefer being healthy, waking up feeling good and being in charge of myself. i also prefer feelings and knowing the man that I'm intimate with and not a near stranger and then later feel bad about being used just for someone to get off and once that accomplished find nothing there to share, engage in a onveration with. I dig my own dignity and know the value I have as a worthwhile human being and refuse to be treated or treat someone else as a object for might as well use the very realistic life size dolls with whom one can accomplish the same but No Risk of being infected or worse encounter one of the crazies. Sometimes it is difficult to live by ones principles esp when it seems one is in the minority but just remember that you have to face yourself in the mirror and the one you should be the most happy about is yourself. The old adage to be true to one's self still is very sound advice to build ones life on. Try going on line and looking for people,in your area with similar principles for we are out there and with you in spirit.(as well as principles, too)

HEY! I guess I'm what you call straight edge. I read your profile. I don't think there is a religion that teaches hate. But that doesn't mean silly followers don't twist it into hate. I am just like your profile except that I'm 42 and love all the varied religions of this world...
