It came from chimps in West Africa.

Switzerland has the highest AIDS rate.

Who knows when AIDS started, but it was first discovered in the mid 70's. It became widespread knowledge in the early 80's. People originally thought it was a new form of cancer.

Because of the decimation of the rain forest, many "new" strains of diseases are now coming forth. It's not just HIV.

Because people are taking over the earth, putting up buildings, using land for cattle and food for humans, laying down asphalt, there has been a depletion of natural predators or a lack of enough natural hosts for certain diseases, these are now being passed on to humans.

AIDS/HIV started, from what scientists can understand, in Africa. Certain monkeys have had this strain of illness for many years, but it was being held in check through the animals not being in much contact with humans. The decimation of the rain forest caused animals to be in much more contact with humans. No a man did not have sex with a monkey, it is thought that the monkey bit the man, who then carried the disease.

If the Natural order would not have been altered by man, many of the "new" diseases would have stayed dormant or would have just affected certain animals.

There are many theories about the start of HIV/AID's and many misconceptions. The key to stopping it is not spouting religious rhetoric, blaming a certain group of people, or thinking "I can't get it", or preaching abstinence, EDUCATION AND PROTECTION are KEY!!!

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is thought to be descended from a very similar virus in apes, the simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). And you don't need sexual contact between humans and monkeys for it to have moved into humans! Being bitten by an infected primate, or if one was killed for food and some blood from it got into a cut on the hunter would be enough for it to be spread to humans.

There are more unknowns than knowns. It is know it orginated in Africa from a mutated viral strain in monkeys. How long it has been around is not well known but it was first identified in the US in the late 1970's. But as a disease it has probably been around since the mid 1960's.

good question.

its relatively new, i think God put it in place to punish those who indulge it sex outside of marriage and sex to more than one person....what surprises me is that it is a new virus and the fastest spreading and most deadly.

i think it started in africa, but it seems to be everywhere china, india, africa, usa, uk, south america...
