Our furnace was installed where the intake and exhaust pipes are vented one foot away from each other. The exhaust sucks up into the intake. During real cold weather the intake pipe gets frozen over with ice from the hot exhaust that is being sucked into it. My husband put an extension on the exhaust pipe to lead it away from the intake. However, now the pipe fills up with water from the condensation and turns into ice not allowing the exhaust to exit. Could this be dangerous . Could it be causing my headaches and exhaustion?

Definitely!!! The original installers should be called back in to complete the job correctly, however, your husband should take that extension off first otherwise they can, if they are the type, deem the work warranty void due to it and they can claim that this extension or attempting to work on the furnace at all, breeches the agreement and caused any problems you might be having now.

Get a Carbon monoxide monitoring alarm installed and likely, if this is causing environmental issues, it will be set off and you have your back up reasons for expecting the furnace folks to come and do the job correctly.

Good luck with this...you might choose to not remain in the home too much and if you can sleep elsewhere (friend, family etc) til the repairs are done...especially if the monitor trips off, it would be wise.

Put in an emergency call to the firm and don't allow them to put you off ... people die from this type of problem happening and if the company is wise, they won't want this situation to continue. It IS potentially dangerous.

Good luck
