i mean, i'm anemic, and it says i shouldn't follow a raw food diet. but... what about those people that don't have anemia and are on raw food... are they going to become anemic then? it doesn't make sense.

someone tell me some info

There is a serious difference between low iron and anemia. As KitKat has anemia is a disease.

I have never heard that anemics should not follow a raw food diet. But a quick internet search shows you're probably reading about it on the "About.Com" website. That article is all wrong.

America's love of dairy is the biggest cause of true anemia and the lesser severe low iron count.

I have a friend diagnosed anemic. Her doctor ordered onto a meat diet and her anemia got worse and worse. She was drinking a lot of milk.

It is also a myth that meat is a good source of iron. Do you drink a lot of tea or coffee? The tannins in tea and coffee muck with your absorption of iron. Also a lack of vitamin C can halt your iron absorption.

See, this is the problem with western medicine. Docs never look to the cause. They just hand out bandaides.

Get yourself some Nutritional Yeast. It's pretty much the veggie version of parmesan cheese. But it's loaded in nutrients. Add a good vitamin C.

Good sources of iron for vegetarians: Chick peas, muesli, spinach, silverbeet, haricot beans, molasses, dried apricots, figs, Nutritional yeast, fresh wheatgerm.
Fair sources: Boiled egg, avocado, asparagus, wholemeal bread, broccoli, brown rice.
Poor sources: banana.

Detrimental to your iron levels: Cow's milk and yogurt.

I don't see what a raw food diet has to do with it. Raw food is our natural diet, no matter what anyone says.

And as the other person suggested, you may not need more iorn, but better absorption of it. Just remember to get your vitamins and minerals from food, not a jar.

Western doctors are not very good at seeing the real cause of something such as anemia. It may have nothing at all to do with your iron intake, as so many foods are full of iron.

Enemies: Coffee, Some Food Additives, Tetracycline, Excesses of Phosphorous, and Zinc

COMPLEMENTARY NUTRIENTS: Vitamin B12, Vitamin E, Calcium, Cobalt, Copper, Folic Acid (B9), Phosphorous

BEST FOOD SOURCES: Seaweeds: Dulse and Kelp, Rice Bran, Wheat Bran & Germ, Legumes, Lime Beans, Mung Beans, Pinto, Red Beans, White Beans, Soybeans, Lentils, Split Peas, Apricots Dried....

OTHER GOOD SOURCES: Figs, esp. Dried, Dates, Peaches, Dried, Prunes, Raisins, Pumpkin, Sesame Seeds, Sunflower Seeds.... the list goes on and on to include whole wheat, and of course spinach, the choice of Popeye! Even spinach has more iron than meat. Wimpy eats burgers!

I was ordered off of vegetarian diet due to anemia. Took a long time to get over it with supplemental iron and a full meaty diet. Now I would never try that again. Even though I eat very little meat. I've never been anemic again.

It is quite possible that vegans and other raw food diet followers will become anemic, if they fail to get enough iron and protien in their diets..the body requires protien and iron to make red blood cells..you need to eat something containing each of these to not become anemic, women are at higher risk of this due to menustrating, I hope you can find some food sources that allow you to safely follow your beliefs. Spinich is a good source of iron that can be eaten raw...most nuts are a good source of protien..get in touch with a nutritionist to help you find a diet that is best for you.

is your anemia due to lack of iron? or some other reason to do with your blood? you can still follow a raw diet and get our iron.

Anemia is not just from lack of iron. There are other causes like genetics. If a raw foodist does not have a family history of the disorder and not lacking in iron, he or she probably wont develop anemia.

if your anemic your iron blood level is too low so if you eat raw foods that can lead to many infections.iron plus other critical minerals in your blood are needed to ward off any type of infections.be sure to get your flu shot
