As much as your daughter may want to do a vaginal delivery, if she is 33 weeks with a baby this size, the C-section would be the safest way to go for both. The reason for waiting until 38 weeks is to give the baby the best chance for survival. Lungs are just now developing, and the closer your daughter gets to the due date, the better for the baby. At 38 weeks, the chances are extremely good there won't be any problems, but earlier than that the odds go down. The reason most doctors don't like to vaginal deliveries with Type I ladies is because the time factor for first deliveries, and the stress on the body. She wouldn't be able to eat during labor, and first babies are long labors as a rule. That wouldn't be healthy for her at all, her blood sugar could bottom out entirely. She can have the C-section done without being knocked out, and it would be better for her and the baby all the way around. While I am sure she might want to have a go at a vaginal delivery, it would be just too risky for both. She wants the baby to have the best chances for a healthy start, and that means waiting as long as she can, and then having the baby as quickly as possible. So that means 38 weeks, and a c-section. Tell her the goal is healthy mother and child, and how the baby is born is not the important thing.

I am a Type 1 diabetic and throughout my pregnancy they told me I would have a big baby. They did a amnio on me early to see if my baby's lungs were developed and then they induced my labor (which was painful for me) My baby was turned wrong so they had to do a c-section on me. It turns out that I was glad because I had been in labor for a very long time. Oh and by the way my baby was not big. She weighed 6 1/2 lbs. I know a c-section scares her but I came through it just fine and I was scared too.

My son was C-sectioned at 39 weeks. He tried to come at 34 weeks. That is not a good idea.. While things could be perfectly fine, there is a chance that the lungs will not be developed enough for you to bring the baby home. You might have to bed down in the Noe natal area for a month or two.. They have all kind of tests and equipment to let you know the status of your baby's lungs. If you have the choice, go all the way (40 weeks! Good luck!

Ok if they say that the baby is 7 1/2 Ib baby that is fantasitc my daughter was 8Ibs for the full 9 months and she is very healthy. Well is the baby's head down in the birthcanal, if so why a C-section. if the baby is not and the baby is breached and they have to do a emergency C-Section. Just ask them why they have to go in early pregnency C-section the baby is fine all of its organs are intact they are working why dont they do a ultra sound and see if they are all produced, good Luck
