It is really a matter of individual preference. Some will argue they like the beans better and some will want just the meat.
Beans add a different texture to the dish as well as a milder flavor contrast to the meat and sauce. The beans do impart a certain flavor of its own and many people like this, too.
It is a good source of protein and fiber so people may want to add it for health reasons, though, even with this, there are some who omit the beans because it is high in uric acid and can cause cramps and exacerbate gout.
Other answers have said that they prefer hotdog chili and chili over fries without beans so here, it is a matter of how it is eaten. A friend of mine loves bean-less chili on hot, steaming rice!
So you see, it all boils down to personal preference.
Enjoy 'em both ways. Discover what you like better. Eat it different ways and join the many people who simply love their chili :)

If I am eating it straight, as the meal, I like beans. If the chili is being used as part of a recipe, (ie a layer of nacho dip) then no beans. The original chili recipes had meat and no beans...not sure when it evolved. Any way you make it chili is good, isn't it?

Chili is best with beans when you just eat it as like a soup or something like that but i wouldn't have a hotdog with beans in the chili but its all personal preference i guess.

I think beans get a bad wrap... I like it with the beans my hubby does not(weirdo). Now, if it is going on top of a hotdog, I prefer no beans.

REAL traditional Texas chili has NO beans, NO tomatoes, and NO onions. However you can add just about anything to this basic chili and it will be good.
Oh and BTW Cincinnati is NOT the chili capital of the world - their chili isn't even Tex-Mex, it's Greek.

Persoanlly, i go with the beans everytime.
They bulk the meal out (left overs can be frozen for 3 months in an airtight container)
Also they have a wonderful creamy texture.
We also eat by feel - if it feels good in your mouth you will eat more!
