People who are in a coma have been known to be able to hear everything that is happening around them. They are not able to respond. There has been much researcj]h on this and it is advised that nurses and doctors never say things about the patient in their vicinity ( unlike the movies!) Recovering patients ahevbeen able to repeat converstaions they heard wihile in a coma state.

If a patient responds to stimuli in coma then it is considered there has been a lightening or shallowing of the condition, But it does not always lead to a total recovery
