It is honestly not hard to stay healthy. Simply eat a variety of foods. If you are healthy already, then that means you are doing that so far (or it means you are still quite young and the effects of your diet haven't appeared yet)... you don't get healthy by eating a ton of meat a day and some potatoes.

The whole sickly thing is a myth. People (whether they eat meat or do not) are healthy or unhealthy depending on *how* they eat, not what they eat. I hear rumors that vegetarians can become B12 or iron deficient. If that becomes a concern for you you can get vegetarian vitamins (from your local health food store) and have your blood checked every year or two. Do not take iron supplements however unless you are low. Getting too much iron can be VERY bad for you.

The vegan food pyramid suggest you eat:
5-6 servings of grains (one slice of bread would be a serving)
3-5 servings of veggies
3 servings of fruit
and 2-3 servings of legumes (beans and soy)
If you include dairy, you should have 2 servings of those.

I know it seems like a lot to eat, but servings are relatively small. I personally got a juicer for all my veggies. You get all your nutrients, but you can have all 3-5 servings in one tiny glass. Also, you do not get the fiber, so I use a blender to make smoothies with my fruits using light vanilla soy-milk and use the fiber from my fruits.

Good luck

The old rules about combining certain foods to make protein for every meal don't apply anymore. Now-a-days the advice is to just eat variety of foods each day. I keep a print of the vegetarian food pyramid on my fridge. I look at it and think about what I've been eating in the last fews days and choose something that will balance. The rice from your breakfast burrito will compliment the baked beans your having for dinner. Just eat lots of different kinds of food and have fun!

Friend Brak is right. All these people telling you "protein protein protein." That's all wrong.

All that protein will just lead to illness. Your body does not process or need it.

Below is a link to the Vegetarian Food Pyramid someone above mentioned. Print it out and keep a copy on your fridge.

ENJOY!

There are millions of things to eat.
Eat what you normally eat just leave the meat out or replace it with beans. There are tons of great vegetables and fruits. Beans, grains, pastas, meat replacements (in moderation). Soy milk, dairy (if you want to eat it). You won't be missing anything!

There are all sorts of proteins out there to fill yourself with instead of pretty little animals.

Such as Tofu, Peanuts, peanut butter, veggie "meats"

and eating veggies is healthy on it's own.

I am a veggie and to help me I buy the veggie "meats" such as bacon and hamburger.. I really don't miss the meat at all. I eat nuts, eggs, and tofu to stay healthy.

Protein is a very important nutrient in your daily life. If you want to become a vegetarian, then you need to still manage to keep protein in your diet.

Healthy foods:
-Nuts
-Tofu: I know that many people don't like this, but it is an extremely good source of protein
-Beans

Hope this helps you!
