I know the physical symptoms of diabetes (hunger, frequent urination, fatique) and am experiencing all of them on what seems to be a much smaller scale. I think if i had diabetes i would feel much worse then i do. My brother thinks i am being a hypocondriac by my moyfirend wants me to get tested for it. I will feel stupid if i get tested for it and i dont have it, especially if the test is expensive. What should i do?

funny - first thing I thought of when you listed your symptoms was pregnancy... either way a test would seem in order.

Get tested! Your symptoms are telling you something but it could just be a change in lifestyle or eating habits or something, but that is the way I figured out I had diabetes...

If you're worried about price. Go to the supermarket or walmart, walgreens or local pharmacy and look for an expensive or semi expensive (basicly that tells you it's good, there is a semi-bargain one out there that often encludes bad testing supplies like the TrueTrack equalline) meter that has a FULL REFUND OFFER -there are tons of them! Many of the meters offer money back offers to register the meter and send them the receipt because they make their money on the test strips that you stick into the meter to do the test but get this -THERE WILL BE ENOUGH of the test strips for you to test yourself a bunch of times, INCLUDED with the FREE (with receipt rebate mailing) meter!

Get the meter and stick batteries in it. It may be nessesary to read to directions, if you got a complicated one but just about all the time all you have to do is STICK A TEST STRIP INTO THE METER and put blood onto the strip (nowadays the strip will probably suck a drop of blood up from the end of the strip -it will seem pretty cool the first time) and the meter will count down and then display a number. The number is 99.99% of the time displayed in milligrams per decilleter. If the number is between 80 to 120, you are probably a-ok. You can go ahead and test yourself a dozen more times over the week, just to be sure. Try to test yourself after eating and also in the morning (when you haven't eaten for awhile) and when you are exercising or doing something phisical for at least 20 minutes to cover all the bases.

If you just ate a huge amount of sugar or high-carb foods or something you may have higher blood sugar levels for a little while but only a doctor can determine the difference between that and diabeties! If you have any different result than 80 to 120, then it is time to go to the doctor...

Get tested- I was found to be diabetic and had super high blood sugar, that had been elevated for perhaps years, and I never had a single symptom. I paid the price because I had neuropathy in my feet as a complication- which is what sent me to the doctor in the first place. Better to be safe than sorry! Good luck. You'll rest easy if it's nothing and shouldn't feel stupid about getting checked.

Don't feel stupid to get tested. It's a common test and most people have it as part of a complete physical. You won't know if you have it, unless you test. Many people are now getting diagnosed with insulin resistance, also known as prediabetes. With this condition, you can make changes to prevent or delay a diabetes diagnosis. Get a fasting glucose and a fsting insulin to find out.

By all means, get tested! Diabetes can be treated with medications or maybe a little insulin or even both. Also with moderate, frequent meals with low carbs, no sugar. I'd much rather my friends say " wow, you have diabetes? Well, let's stay away from the sweets" than have them say... " well doesn't she look pretty... it's a shame we lost her so young, when all she had to do was have a little test!"
Honestly, please get yourself tested... may God Bless You!!

You should get tested.

If you are feeling hungry, you definitely do not have hyperglycimia (major initial symptom of diabetes.)

However, your tiredness and frequent batroom breaks are partial symptoms.

I don't know what it costs, but if its marginal, I would definitely see your doctor. You can't put a price on early detection and immediate control of hyperglycemia.

You should never feel stupid about health issues. In fact, you may be relieved that it really may not be anything at all!

Good luck!

There is nothing wrong in getting tested is there? You can of course try to look for information in the net. Best is to consult a professional. But you may visit this website which I found very useful and informative. http://ailments.in/diabetes.html

basically its just a blood test . Some times at pharmacy's you can get screened. They would just prick your finger and use an at home kit. But they would advise you to see your Dr. as well. This is just going to screen you NOT diagnose you.
