It is somewhat like cumin but is much sharper, stronger, and more piquant.

Please to the right thing and remind me of the name so I can do correct shoping and satisfy my urges for good Indian taste!

I think you are think of "SHAHI JEERA". It is a stronger version of cumin, in the same family.

If its shaped like cummin it can only be one of these two.

fennel seeds picture here (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.steenbergs.co.uk/images/products/27.gif&imgrefurl=http://www.steenbergs.co.uk/description2.php%3Fprodid%3D27&h=150&w=200&sz=19&hl=en&sig2=e61ce87UhG93kfGA0S4sQQ&start=3&tbnid=kwsyEGTKZMmiGM:&tbnh=78&tbnw=104&ei=e9XBRe-jLpzOJJXumZEH&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dfennel%2Bseeds%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26rls%3DGGGL,GGGL:2006-15,GGGL:en%26sa%3DX)

or it could be shahjeera (caraway seeds) they look very much like cummin but have a slightly sweeter taste
