I'm 22 years old. For the past few months I've been having chest pains on the left side up where my heart is and sometimes down lower where i think my liver is. They've been getting a lot more frequent lately (almost daily). When it happens i usually get a panic attack and anxiety that lasts for hours as well as weird muscle spasms. A lot of the times i'm relaxed at night in bed and just as i'm about to fall asleep it feels like my heart stops or skips a beat or has a quick pain and i sit up quickly and gasp a big breath as if something scared me then i get anxiety from it and i get the shakes for a long time. All of these conditions seem to worsen the day after i drink (which is 2-3 times a week). Any idea what could be wrong?

It is always a good idea to see your doctor when you are having regular and consistent pain, no matter where it is, but especially in your chest. With that said, you certainly have age on your side and it is not likely that you have a heart problem, but get it checked out just to be sure. Your liver is on the right side, so if your pain is on the left then it's not your liver. As far as the ocassional skipped beats, that can happen sometimes and isn't usually a big deal if it isn't happening all throughout the day everyday. Alcohol and caffeine can make it worse. It sounds as if you are reacting to the skipped beats with anxiety, which can naturally make it worse. Talk to your doctor. That will go a long way to making you feel better and will ease your anxiety. Good luck.

Wow. It seems like your describing something similar to what I experienced as a kid and occasionally as an adult. I get those achy, sharp pain in my chest / rib area. Often the pain is mild but sometimes it's so bad I can barley take a breath. It also feels like it starts at the bottom of my rib cage and then travels up my side as it slowly goes away. I was told by my doctor it was "growing" pains. Then when I was older, I brought it up again and he said it could be a muscle spam. It's been months since I've had one. With me, the pain only last a few seconds and at the most a minute or two. They also only seem to happen once or twice in a day when i do have them. I would suggest that if they occur more frequently, multiple times in a day I'd see someone about it. It could be nothing or it could be something (kind of obvious answer).

So you are saying you get these pains if you drink or not, they just seem worse after you drink??alcohol does cause heart disease.1) quit drinking!2) get a doctors appt.asap!!! The heart isnt something you can play with. You dont have another one of them if one goes bad.Take care of yourself now, and get that drs. appt.
