I have heard differing opinions on the effects of steam with asthmatics....many take the view that it is beneficial...I am a sufferer of asthma and have always found that steam aggravates my asthma...then again I always was the exception to the rule so not sure....maybe it is a case of yes it does and no it doesn't!!!!

I have had asthma my entire life. When I was a kid, my doctor told my parents to run hot water in the shower and let me sit in the steam when I had an attack. I do this as an adult sometimes when I'm having trouble. He also recommended a humidifier. The extra moisture in the air really does help a lot when your lungs are inflamed.

the steam helps in a way that the heat relaxes the smooth muscle lining your bronchus and bronchioles. making them wider thus easier to breathe.
