I also have asthma and have received a flu jab every year, which has caused me to suffer with a dose of the flu and an episode of wheezing requiring a short dose of steroids. This year having received my letter I rang to make an appointment to have my flu jab to be told the surgery had run out and hence I havent had one, I have to say I have not had the flu, wheezing or any problems at all and it is probably the best winter health wise I have had. It makes me wonder!!

There are side effect as with any medication though most people tolerate this well with sometimes a minor flu like illness a few days later. The flu is much worse though particularly if asthmatic so I would say go with it. Children need 2 shots of the vaccine to work- still worth it>

My son is 5 and has asthma, he had his flu jab in December and he was fine. I think you should get it done as with your kids having asthma if they catch the flu it can be serious which is why they're are offered it.

I have a flu jab every year because i am on the list of vunerable people entitled to it. so are your children. Would you rather they got the flu, and had a bad asthma attack?

If the asthma is that bad then i would let them have the injection, i've had it for years with no side effects but the chest infections that they may get; resulting in pnuemonia could be life threatening. Tell the doctor of your concerns, your obviously a caring parent.
