I like cooking Thai food at home.

But why is it whenever I go to a Thai restaurant I get landed with a bowl of sticky rice and some hurriedly steamed limp veggies? It seems like half of them don't even know what 'vegetarian' means. The other half give me the 'look'.

What's up with that?

PS: sorry if I offended anyone, but these are just my experiences

Most Thai restaurants, do offer a variety of veggie dishes.
However, they may not be they're specialties.
They usually can make most dishes vegetarian, if you ask.
Try one of their specials maybe.

Congratulations on choosing to be a vegetarian despite pressures like this to choose otherwise!

If you want to make sure that you are served a fully vegetarian meal without the staff looking at you funny or not knowing what to serve you, you should go to vegetarian Thai restaurants. You might want to visit VegDining.com, where there are hundreds and hundreds of vegetarian restaurants listed, from all over the world (you didn't say what area you're from). I find this site very helpful because they even feature reviews from people who have actually visited and dined at these restaurants. It even has a discount card to member restaurants, so who knows if one Thai restaurant is located in your area?

Good luck finding a more compassionate Thai restaurant!

1. Thai rice is sticky.
2. Try different places. I swear, I have never had bad food at a Thai restaurant.

I went for Vietnamese one time and asked what was in the vegetarian soup (yes that is what it was called). The waitress said, cabbage, tofu, chicken broth... and I stopped her right there. I told her that it wasn't vegetarian if it contained any meat products. She looked totally confused so I sourly ordered something else. lol Thai food I find is better. I recommend Pad See Ew, it's tofu with a black bean sauce and broccoli. Sounds like you should try another restaurant...

They are probably in a hurry or feeling really annoyed that day. 'Cause really, people probably treat them bad all day (e.g. hurried business people @ lunch, etc.).

I love Thai food. If that really happened, you just haven't been to the right Thai restaurants.

I'm a vegan actually, and some people do look at me that way, too.

But, I push it aside, and try to enjoy my meal.
