A stroke affects the brain; a heart attack affects the heart.
A stroke occurs when blood flow is stopped in one of the arteries leading to part of the brain. Depending on exactly where in the brain they occur, and how severe the damage is, strokes can be relatively minor or life-threatening, even fatal.
A heart attack occurs when blood flow is stopped in one of the arteries leading to the heart. Although the heart pumps blood and is therefore filled with it, it is also a muscle which needs its own blood supply, just like your arms and legs need blood when you exercise.
The medical term for this kind of blockage, wherever it occurs, is an "infarct." It is possible to get infarcts in other parts of the body besides the brain and the heart, and some infarcts can lead to serious, life-threatening consequences. But infarcts in the brain or heart typically cause immediate and potentially deadly consequences, so they are known by the specific names of stroke (brain) and heart attack (heart).

let me put this in simple terms. stroke is also known as a brain attack. both heart and brain attack are caused by poor blood supply and thus oxygenation to their respective organs. without oxygen, cells of that organ dies and their functions also decrease.
