No they like slugs in a sweet white wine sauce. They get a bit drunk on beer and sometimes die cause they get plastered and fall over.

Oh you lucky person you. Having the Thursday Hedgehogs is always such a treat. The other day I was watching Martha Stewhog and she had some very interesting tid bits on the show for your little delimma. Most of these cuties like Corona but you have to be careful because it only take about a teaspoon and they are trashed. She had a great recipe for slugs.

12-15 garden varity slugs
1-2 cups fresh grass clippings
1 cup water
1/2 tsp. cinammon
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp dried crushed rosemary
1/4 cup melted butter

place melted butter in small pan. add grass clippings and saute until nice and golden colored sprinkle in the rosemary and cinammon slowly add slugs so they are well coated. once you see bubbles pour in water and quickly cover. this will steam out some great flavor. garnish with some fresh picked rose petals and daisys.

I hope your party goes well and please send the darlings this way I have scheduled an elegant tea party for them and Mrs. Dandrige has been ill. Please send her my love and tell he to email me soon and let me know how the grandkids are doing. You know they have had such trouble with that little NessieRosa if she doesnt stop smoking that darn ragweed she will never get into Harvard. Boy I bet her parents are so ashamed right now. But I'm not one so start anything. I know if my little one did what she did ooooo I would send him out to hunt for hunters. No more problems then. Good luck give them my best

Well it's a well known fact that they also enjoy the odd slug, which in some strange flook of nature happen to like beer. Soooooo leave the beer out in the garden over night the slugs will drown in it (bit unseemingly i know) and then you can serve the beer up in saucers for the hedgehogs. Worms could be served in a bit of cat food, but don't give them fish cos it makes their prickles fall out. By the way you can't do the slug thing in winter cos they are all hidden. You could dig up some slug eggs though. Just under the surface of the soil and they look like barley ummmmmm at least as far as I remember.

I once invited a family of hedgehogs to dinner and they were so prickly I got exasperated raised my voice and they all rolled up into balls. I will never invite them again. I hope your dinner party goes well.

Forget about worms and beer. The best way to serve hedgehogs is to cover them completely in a sticky clay overcoat and roast them in the embers of a wood fire until the clay bakes solid and the meat is tender. Remove the clay covering (the spines come off with the clay) and enjoy with a baked potato and a couple of tomatoes.

make sure you have loud classical music. they tend to slurp when they drink and get quite embarrassed about the noises, so if you drown out the slurps they will be most grateful. also try putting a few snails with the worms, it will give the evening a french feel. all the hedgehogs i know say they plan to visit France when hedgehog passports become available at the end of 2008

A prickley problem you have there....
I had those guys round my house last week, they were very drunk and as high as kites on worms, they were rolling around everywhere and they burst my water bed and my inflatable armchair.
If I were you I would only serve them with a cocktail of freshly squeezed slugs and seagull vomit. (non alchoholic variety) and for snacks I would give them deep fried cockroach droppings and a side plate of frog spawn.

Perhaps worms with a topping of dog food, I think they'd love a stack of logs built into a rustic cabin for their party. Beer....don't know, but much better for them than the bread & milk which isn't good news for them.
PS. My dog 'Storm's' interested in sending some of her fleas round to meet with your hedgehogs, perhaps they can gatecrash the party?

it is well known that hedgehogs are creatures of habit and EVERYBODY knows that on a thursday they like to have slugs and vodka

i suppose you could try to serve them the beer and worm combo but dont be surprised if they get upset that you are not up to date on hedgehog ettiquette

if you want to risk this social faux pas i suggest you mince the worms and lightly saute them with finely chopped onion and serve on a bed of horseradish mash - the beer should be body temperature though cos a cold one could give them hypothermia and you dont want to cause them harm as well as insult their sensibilities about the thursday diet

and of course you do know that they prefer linen napkins to paper ones.... it is to do with their prickles!!

serve worms cool on bed of dried leaves.

ensure the beer is flat and stale.
