Okay, so NO metalic, okay, and roses and candles sound soooo great, what an idiot i didnt even think of them. And the red works sooo perfectly because while my invitations will require black white or a combo of the two, I am wearing a cute little red number. Great ideas, I still want more, from anybody though. Each of you has great input

All tables should be covered with silver table clothes, with a clear glass vases on them with black marbles/beads inside, with a very beautiful white rose to spurs it up just a tad, so that your decorations won't be overwhelmed with to much black & white. Add small tea candles to tables, bar sesting areas etc.
Make it memorable. Mix up your colors with black and white table accesories, but keep it unique and simple. I wouldn't use metalics.
Purchase some styrofoam balls, medium in sizes, cover with clue and then cover them with silver glitter stick a small hook at top let dry then tie clear thread to hook, and use to hang from celling. they will appear as though they are floating.
Use all your colors for your party invitation.
Here is a cute invite saying: "Here's Your Pass, Into The Eighteenth Year of my Future, Lets Dance"
Since it's for your eighteenth birthday I also suggest Black & white ballons with the number eighteen on them, black numbers for the white, and white numbers for the black.
I hope this little bit of info helps. And I hope it the best party ever! Don't let any of your friends drink and drive.!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Dance! Dance! Dance!

The silver is a classy touch, but instead of other metallic, I would throw red in there just for the purposes of flowers. Not knowing what your budget is. Black table clothes (you can rent them form party stores) white chair covers with silver sashes(again rent). Use red flowers for centerpieces. White plates with silver charges will make an elegant table. Or if you don't want the red. Do center pieces of black white and silver balloon arrangements. Also a nice balloon arch to make your grand entrance.

Soft pink light bulbs - no harsh bright white ones.
Silver glitter to sprinkle on the tables.
White candles in crystal (or clear glass) holders with a silver sprig attached to each.
Silver chargers under each dinner plate. If possible, use a white dinner plate and a black salad plate. Crystal glasses.
Are you planning on using balloons? If so, use shiny silver AND iridescent ribbons hanging down from them.
I would NOT mix metallic colors - stay with Silver.

I went to a party where the room where the horsdorves were being served had nothing but black, white, silver, and clear helium filled balloons. There were so many that you couldn't even see the ceiling. They all had matching ribbons hanging down from the ceiling to about 3 feet above the floor. It was magical.

black and white is so crisp, clean and elegant but you need some color to really POP against the black and the white since they are both such crisp and clean colors.
i would go with red, pink or purple. for the centerpieces, i would talk with your local florist and see what's really fresh and beautiful (since you didn't mention if the party is soon or in the spring). i LOVE lillies or roses and both come in a variety of colors so you can really play with them and have fun mixing and matching. you could also have LOTS of candles (different sizes and styles like floating candles, tapers, etc.) and flower petals. you could have the table cloths be white with black over-lays (like a diamond pattern almost) and cover the table with rose petals and have them be your centerpieces as well.
if you need help on food, PLEASE email me b/c i am in the catering business and i kinda know what i'm talking about. either way...HAVE FUN!!

It's really cheap and classy to take either cloth napkins or paper napkins in all black or alternating black and white and fold into nice fans or stuff in glasses at each place setting, there are many cool folds you could do. You could also use them to decorate the drink table, gift table, food tables etc. Also, floating votives in a cute little bowls of water looks awsome with dimmed lights.

You could do sort of an Art Deco/20's theme. Use circles, triangles to create interesting "architectural" designs. check out some design sites that feature the Deco style. That should give you some good ideas of things to use.

Happy sweet 18 birthday when it arrives. It does not have to be sleek and beautiful because you'll be present and that will be enough..
