I'm 26 and I have a recurring throat infection (stuff like strepsils or coldrex won't help). It happened to me before and my laryngologist said it's caused by partially hidden third tonsil that is still there. I know its not difficult to get rid of the infection but if I don't do it I will have sore throat for months. I don't need tonsillectomy, I just want to know how I can heal my throat with home methods or with non-prescriptive drugs available in UK (really haven't got time to wait 3 months for a doctor visit and I don't remember the names of the drugs prescribed last time). It's not a cold but it's not tonsilitis either, it's a throat infection. Thank you for help.

If your throat continues to be infected, it should be treated by a doctor. Chronic tonsillar infections can lead to infected heart valves and/or sepsis (blood poisoning). Did the laryngologist say you don't need a tonsillectomy? Go to a private doctor and get the right treatment. It doesn't sound like the NHS wants to spend the money to really fix the problem.

Well if its caused by a partly hidden third tonsil, the best cure would be a tonsillectomy. Otherwise you will constantly be subject to have repeat infections there as bacteria such as strep will colonise there. If you leave an untreated strep throat infection, it can cause conditions such as rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease (although this is not very common in first world countries). In the longrun, it will probably save you money on doctor consultations and medications to just get a tonsillectomy.

You can take all the medicine you want. However, if you DON'T CHANGE YOUR TOOTHBRUSH, it's all for nothing.
If you continue to use the same chapstick, or the same lip balm and don't wash your hands frequently, then it's all for nothing.
Sounds like another round of antibiotics for you, ..... and a new toothbrush.
Try this and see what happens. Really, some people do forget all about the hygiene of the toothbrush when they are sick. I hope this helps, and I hope your throat clears up.
