Love this question because it makes me think about my commitment again:

Well, I have heard a lot of information about the health concerns about eating animal products (including eggs and dairy) over the past many years (probably going back to the 70s). That is my chief reason for being not just vegetarian, but vegan, and in the summer, raw vegan. I believe that the plant-based diet is the healthiest diet-- that all your nutrients are available (except possibly for B12, which can be gotten easily through a small supplement). I feel better when I eat vegan. I felt lousy when I ate dairy.

And I also continue to be educated in the area of vegan nutrition and learn more exciting stuff about how raw fruit and vegetables work to extend a quality life. Too, I went to a lecture by the "Mad Cowboy" Howard Lyman and that REALLY turned me around... google him and hear what he has to say.... really impressive (share it with your parents and grandparents-- he has that kind of influence).

All the best!

Since I was a child I suffered from very bad nasal and skin allergies. Also when I reached my teens, I suffered from various menstrual and reproductive system disorders that doctors could not figure out or diagnose.
For many years I was in hormonal treatments and allergy drugs and creams and nothing never helped me to get better.
One day a I met a friend that talked to me about how a vegetarian life style could easeaway all my symptoms. After 4 years as a vegetarian, my health is on top of the bar. All my allergy and reproductive problems are gone! All this just by changing what I ate. If everybody that is sick made a REAL change on what they eat they would improve tremendously without the need of using drugs and other treatments that just focus on the symptoms but don't take care of the cause. We have to take care of the cause of sickness; our Life Styles.

It began when I discovered the function of liver in the body. That blew all pates and liver dishes out the window! It was logical to assume that if the liver strains all poisons out of the body, when you eat the liver, you are also ingesting a whack of poisons along with the flesh.

In 1972 I heard Dr. David Suzuki discussing the problem of accumulated chemicals in the flesh of the animals we were eating. Always a man with great foresight, Mr. Suzuki spoke of the proliferation of antibiotics fed these beasts which he claimed were creating super germs resistant to treatment. That rather sealed the deal for me.

The vision of meat having to rot in my body so that it can be absorbed into my system is one that keeps me on the veggie path! That cannot be healthy. Surely there is a reason why those with colon cancers are often urged to give up red meats.

As a Muslim I cannot eat any pork products. As a person conscious of my own health, I avoid beef and lamb. Chicken I admit to enjoying maybe once a year. For the rest, I eat fresh foods and grains and do quite well.

Because I found out how animals are treated on the farms, on the way to the slaughterhouse and at the slaughterhouse. If I were to continue eating meat I would be supporting this inhumane way of treating living things. There is no way I will contribute to this, so I will never eat a peice of meat again.

I never really liked meat, especially red meat, so it just seemed right to stop eating meat. I wouldn't have to worry about animals dying so I could suffer while I eat them.... the whole process just seemed wrong. I also just don't see why an animal has to die so I can eat it to get nutrients when those nutrients can come from other sources.

i dont eat meat because i feel disgusted when i think that this was a living creature of God and how can i eat this animal that was once running and sleeping and breathing... mean ican eat other things rather than just meat...why should the cow have to guve up its life just so that i can have some food...there are other things to eat rather then an animal. i also feel like a killer
